The problem of IT (in the Netherlands?)
A complex IT system needs to be build. Two IT architects start a conversation.
“How did you become an IT architect?”, says one of them to the other.
“I studied computer science, worked as an assistant to a very experienced IT architect during several years, followed additional education each year and finally I managed to become an IT architect myself. How about you?”
“Well, I’m not really into theory, so I did not follow the difficult computer science study. Instead I studied gymnastics. After working some years as a gymnastics teacher I decided I wanted to do something different. So I followed some AMBI courses and here I am!”.
“OK”, replies number one, “and how are you planning to build this system?”.
“One very important aspect is that everybody understands what we are doing. It does not really matter if the end result has the best possible quality as long as everybody is involved. And by the way, we don’t have enough time and money to do it completely the right way, so let’s take a pragmatic approach!”
“But what if the IT system crashes because we don’t do it the right way?”
“That’s just a risk we have to take! I don’t know exactly how to set up the system and I don’t have detailed knowledge about programming languages. But I do have good soft skills that I can use to manage the process!.”

A heart patient is being prepared for surgery. Two surgeons start a conversation.
“How did you become a heart surgeon?”, says one of them to the other.
“I studied medicine, worked as an assistant to a very experienced surgeon for several years, followed additional education each year and finally I managed to become a surgeon myself. How about you?”
“Well, I’m not really into theory, so I did not follow the difficult medicine study. Instead I studied gymnastics. After working some years as a gymnastics teacher I decided I wanted to do something different. So I followed some human biology courses and here I am!”.
“OK”, replies number one, “and how are you planning to perform this surgery?”.
“One very important aspect is that everybody understands what we are doing. It does not really matter if the end result has the best possible quality as long as everybody is involved. And by the way, we don’t have enough time and money to do it completely the right way, so let’s take a pragmatic approach!”
“But what if the patient dies because we don’t do it the right way?”
“That’s just a risk we have to take! I don’t know exactly how to perform the surgery and I don’t have detailed knowledge about veins. But I do have good soft skills that I can use to manage the process!.”
